Patriotism

  "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."   When I was young, I remember at the beginning of each class an announcement from the principle proudly spoke over the loudspeaker and said, "We are now going to recite the pledge of allegiance." Our homeroom teacher, along with each student, stood proudly looking at the flag and recited these words. As our hands were over our hearts, we did not question why we did what we did, nor the meaning behind those words. As we celebrate the fourth of July, one word that stood out amongst them all is liberty. What does this word mean and where does it come from? Liberty is the state of being free. This word comes from the many sacrifices that our ancestors have made to make sure each and every one of us has a chance at happiness and success. Mental Health

As I start to open my eyes, I can feel the warmth of the morning sun penetrating through a small crack in one of the tiny blinds. Like a small laser, the bright light illuminates towards my pillow and onto my tired eyes. This small light as it were, gave me enough energy to rise half of my body. After sitting on the couch for a few minutes to try and not fall back asleep, I took a long stretch. A stretch so big that all the blood from the night finally started to flow throughout my body, instead of lying dormant like a zombie. "This day, unlike previous days, will be the beginning of wonderful adventures", I begin to tell myself as I am greeted by my wonderful dog who jumped on the bed for her morning routine of song and play.  As we begin to play, I am reminded that life is more of what we make it. I am happy knowing there is someone special that I can take care of. Although, a question always crosses my mind, "What would I do without her?" Quickly, this question i...
