Pride Month
Happy Pride
As we celebrate this month of Pride, are we actually celebrating and including everyone? There are those of us that may have never been to a pride event or even spoken to other gay individuals only to hide away because of fear from the local straights. The fear of being killed because the way of culture and adaptation does not meet with those that might live in the past.
I have lived this earth plenty of years to understand that change must come within. We must change the idea of hate into the idea of love. Sure, there are bumps that must be smooth in order to allow the change that is needed. What must change and who must change is dependent upon the people today and tomorrow. Will we in this century and beyond finally get reconcile and peace or will this train continue to run the same course as it has always run?
We often forget to express empathy for all of those around us. Yes, speaking as a gay man, I often see the bigotry no matter what sexual orientation that person may be. This is derived from the politics that pursue the everyday man, woman and child. We allow ourselves to engulf ourselves in the nonsense and listen to every word as if it is the golden chalice. There must be a pull string to stop us on this downhill ride.
So, for once, turn off the television, and talk to a neighbor or make some friends. Try something different and new. If something frightens you, take the plunge and do that thing that you fear. Talk to someone that is different from you and get to know one another. The difference in us is what is great about the world. We should embrace the good from within. Once we do that, we can all live in a utopia of peace.
The generations of stories that are waiting to be told can change the way we feel about one another. For this month, talk with someone you know that is part of the LGBTQIA community and ask about the history of pride or why it was started in the first place. The stories are not only heroic but an eye-opener to the struggles that one has faced in the name of bigotry.
Tell me in the comments what you think would help get rid of bigotry.
